Mom's Pea Soup

2 cups split peas
2 quarts water
1 large onion, diced
2 medium potatos, cubed
2 carrots, cut up
3 celery stalks, chopped
1 cup (or more) diced ham
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp dried marjoram
1/4 tsp dried thyme
salt, if needed - taste when soup is done cooking

Boil ham bone to make ham broth.  Use that as the "water" for the recipe.  All ingredients into the pot.  Bring to a boil then reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 hours.  Mix often!  Serve with sour cream.
